Beacon Press

F  NF  P

Beacon Press® is an independent publisher of serious non-fiction. Our books often change the way readers think about fundamental issues; they promote such values as freedom of speech and thought; diversity, religious pluralism, and anti-racism; and respect for diversity in all areas of life.Founded in 1854, Beacon has published many ground-breaking classics, including James Baldwin’s Notes of a Native Son, Herbert Marcuse’s One-Dimensional Man, Jean Baker Miller’s Toward a New Psychology of Women, and Mary Daly’s Gyn/Ecology. Bedlam Publishing

They used to put us away into institutions. When they tired of us or we spoke up. They didn’t view us as equals. We are not so far removed from the lunatics of our namesake. Unlike the howling mad of the old Bethlem Royal Hospital, we are not chained up in musty cells, desperate for meals or clean water, neglected and abused by our Keepers. No, we are among you, providing a platform for the voiceless to tell their obscured and overlooked tales.Bedlam Publishing was founded in late 2003 in Casper, Wyoming on the grand delusion that we could initiate a regional literary movement. In the years since, we have shifted our goals, varied our projects and become a bit more concerned with (for?) humanity. We have produced two different print magazines, our original literary magazine, “The Bedlam Reader” (2005-2009), and our counter-culture monthly, “The Rag” (2009-2010).As a stepping stone for new writers and artists, we are concerned with powerful and unique visions rather than chasing markets and pandering to trends. We challenge perceptions and paint new realities. We are here for the oft-muted outsiders, offering another perspective in a sea of similar sides…looking to connect with imaginative, honest outsiders. Humans creating to understand our world, to stand up against oppressors and detractors, to complete those fleeting thoughts that keep us awake at night

Belladonna Books

2019 marks the 20th anniversary of the Belladonna* mission to promote the work of women* and feminist writers who are adventurous, experimental, politically involved, multi-form, multicultural, multi-gendered, impossible to define, unpredictable, and dangerous with language. Belladonna* is committed to publishing and building literary community among women-identified and LGBTQIA+ authors who write off-center, producing work that is political and critical; situational rather than plot-driven; inter-subjective, performative, or witnessing rather than personally revelatory; work that reaches across the boundaries and binaries of literary genre and artistic fields, and that questions the gender binary. Belladonna* is a feminist avant-garde collective, founded in 1999 by Rachel Levitsky. Belladonna* started as a reading and salon series at Bluestocking’s Women’s Bookstore on New York City’s Lower East Side. In June 2000, in collaboration with Boog Literature, Belladonna* began to publish commemorative “chaplets” (defined as short chapbooks of immediate writing or work-in-progress) of the readers’ work. This series continues today and has reached well beyond #200.

Belt Publishing

Belt Publishing is a small, independent press founded in Cleveland in 2013 as a platform for new and influential voices from the Rust Belt, the Midwest, and beyond. Our growing catalog includes original titles by some of the nation’s best writers about often overlooked subjects of interest. We also publish anthologies of writing about cities from Buffalo to St. Louis and beyond, as well as neighborhood guidebooks — essay collections about the enclaves that shape the broader cultural identities of major cities — and influential works from the past that illuminate the present and inform our future.

Ben Yehuda Press

Ben Yehuda Press began with three books: Each one a fine execution of a brilliant idea.
All those books lacked was a publisher. The titles didn’t fall into any of the niches claimed by existing Jewish publishing companies – but weren’t of wide enough interest – that is to say, sufficiently pareve – to interest a general publisher. We saw books that deserved to be published for their excellence… but like an idea too new for a Dewey Decimal number, seemed to exist outside the prescribed parameters for a “Jewish book.” So we started Ben Yehuda Press to give these books a home. We’re traditional… and innovative. We take Judaism seriously… and are secure enough in our identity to be amused by it, too.
We respect Jewish organizations and see the larger Jewish community for the Noah’s Ark that it is, for the Tower of Babel that it is, and for the Garden of Eden that it can be. We also see more and more Jews who don’t fit into any of the usual boxes. And we love books. We love publishing great books. And we love finding the right books to reach more Jews where they are.
