Publishers Working with BookBoro

Wild Ocean Press

F  P

Welcome to Wild Ocean Press
Wild Ocean Press is an independent publisher of poetry, memoir and fiction by writers who may not be widely recognized but should be. Much important literary work remains unpublished either because authors are unwilling to submit to the control and dictates of large corporate publishing machines or because those same corporate publishers do not anticipate generating enough revenue from a book regardless of literary merit.

Willow Springs Books

F  P

Willow Springs Books is a small literary press housed in Eastern Washington University’s MFA program in Spokane. The staff of WSB are mostly creative writing MFA students under the direction of poet Christopher Howell. As part of an internship, students gets hands-on experience with every part of the publishing process, from reading manuscripts to editing, designing, and marketing.
WSB (aka “The Press”) provides students with hands on publishing experience from acquisition to production to promotion. Each year we publish one collection of short fiction, selected from our student run Spokane Prize for Short Fiction, as well as two chapbooks of poetry. Over your two-year MFA experience interns will have the opportunity to acquire new manuscripts, edit, design, and promote up to seven books! We aim to publish high quality, award-winning literary fiction and American Surrealist Poetry, as well as design books that stand out among small and large presses alike.
Because the press is entirely student run, interns self-select their own projects, which means interns have the opportunity to tailor the internship to their areas of interest or professional desire. Former Managing Editors have gone on to work for literary magazines such as The Gettysburg Review, and interns have gone on to win awards for their design portfolios.

Winter Goose Publishing

F  P

Winter Goose Publishing, LLC is a press founded in 2011. We are a royalty-paying trade publisher that has focused on books we feel are strong in a unique style, subject matter, and written with heart. Our first thought is never “will this be popular” or “will it sell.” If we like the manuscript and it’s well crafted, we feel honored to tell that story. All the other pieces fall into place, and we always feel good knowing we are putting passionate, quality work into the world.

Winter Goose came from a need in a changing industry, and the desire to have a place where authors could feel as though they are a part of the entire process. As we grow, we work diligently to keep the small-press feel and to always provide a hands-on support system. Our authors are our family.

Why Winter Goose? The name simply comes from what our founder’s father has called her since she was a baby, and still to this day: Goose.

Wolsak & Wynn Publishers

Wolsak and Wynn
Wolsak and Wynn was created in 1982 by two dedicated poets, Heather Cadsby and Marja Jacobs, who felt that important poetry was being neglected by the publishers of the day. Within six years the press had gone from its first anthology of poems to its first Governor General’s Literary Award for Poetry. Today this is the umbrella imprint for the press, and it is still the place to find important work that has been overlooked by larger publishers, whether it’s cultural analysis, memoir or translation.
